Adam Capital's New Financing Programs Put Solar Developers Back in Control

New Developer-Sponsored and Retained Financing Options Allow Solar Installers to Maximize Profitability, Control, and Access to Capital

August 17, 2011

Under traditional solar leasing programs, installers are paid a one-time development fee, while the leasing company retains the long-term profits from years of monthly payments. Now Adam Capital Clean Energy Asset Finance LLC has developed new programs that allow solar developers to offer their own internal leasing or financing programs. Developers can offer their own credit terms to customers, develop and market their own leases, and collect monthly cash flow for the life of the lease on each solar system they install.

“Gone are days when you have to sell your hard work to somebody else,” says Adam Boucher, CEO of Adam Capital. “We’re putting solar developers back in control, because the folks with the boots on the ground are the ones truly driving this industry. By providing developers with efficient means of offering their own solar financing, we’re putting financial control and profitability back in the hands of the people actually installing solar on homes across the country.”

In the first half of 2011, Adam Capital has agreed to extend over $16 million in loans for solar projects throughout United States under the new loan, leasing, and financing programs the company has developed. Using government-mandated rebates and investment tax credits as collateral, these programs allow behind-the-meter solar installers to offer residential systems in the US and Canada for no money down and immediate savings to the customer in many markets. By maintaining their own leases on the panels, installers can collect longterm monthly revenue for every job they do, becoming true investors in their work.

“We’re doing more than loan money - we’re giving solar installers an opportunity they wouldn’t otherwise have. We provide a financial structure that allows them to install projects and not just walk away, but to own them and have long term assets,” says Kim Pardini, Loan Operations Officer at Adam Capital. “We’re expanding the business opportunity from solar installer to solar investor by providing a loan service that’s not available anywhere else, combined with the expertise to help solar businesses grow with every system they install.”

“The developers we work with are realizing they can get much more profitability from each watt they install by doing their own financing,” adds Larry Farris, Loan Operations Lead at Adam Capital. “We’ve developed loan structures and procedures specifically designed to serve North American residential solar developers. We can now underwrite, document, and close deals so developers can get their money in under two weeks. And once the project is built, they can keep getting paid every month for the life of the system.”

About Adam Capital:
Adam Capital Clean Energy Asset Finance LLC is a private investment fund operating solely within the clean energy sector. We extend collateralized loans in the $1 million to $10 million range, an important niche within the clean energy finance spectrum that is largely unserved by banks, bond markets or venture capitalists. By leveraging ITC grant cash payments and other local incentive rebates as collateral, we enable our borrowers to install much needed small-scale clean-energy projects. We have funded over 1200 projects across multiple states and utility districts, serving the needs of individuals, schools, non-profits, and businesses.
